Ramses II began his reign in 1301BC. He was a ferocious warrior, and used the loot from his campaigns to fund enormous building projects, such as the massive rock temple at Abu Simbel. It is said that Ramesses was the Pharaoh at the time of the Exodus, when Moses led the Jewish slaves out of Egypt.

This commemorative plate depicts Ramesses II at the battle of Kadesh in hist victory against the Hittites.

Canopic Jars were used to hold specific body parts of the deceased, and were thought to be protected by the four gods known as the Sons of Horus, who were the guardians of the internal organs, and which were linked to the four cardinal points.

Duamutef, who is depicted as a jackal head, was the guardian of the stomach. He was also associated with the east.
